The conflict that consumes Naofumi and the royal family has now grasped a bigger audience – his entire party plus Melty. In an attempt to assassinate (and if unsuccessful, incriminate her associates) Melty, Myne has thrown the entire kingdom against Naofumi and his party. Melty is saved and the group fights off the guards with non-lethal means – but it would seem that the royal family and the church of the three heroes have yet the most evil weapon ever seen in their possession: Sony Vegas. Before dropping their sick Tate no Yuusha AMV to Skrillex, the church of the three heroes uses sony vegas to mask out Raphtalia’s beautiful smile and draw a sinister face in it’s place, along with blood to make it appear their actions were lethal. This is all that is needed to place a majority of the populace against them and have them on the run.
I should have known the most evil people in the kingdom would be AMV editors.
At some point Myne drops all pretenses that what she is doing is just, and just starts straight out attempting to kill Melty in front of the sword and bow hero, like the deranged, poisoned-in-the-mind sociopath that she is. The two admittedly dense heroes think “Hey, wow, that doesn’t seem like a good thing to do!” Good reasoning skills you two! The only other thing to note is that Raphtalia stabs Myne through with her new sword, which was absolutely hilarious.
Myne’s reasoning can only be described as deranged, hedonistic, and entirely selfish. I have no doubt that if you gave her a gun, put her in a room with Gandhi, and told her that if she shot him she’d receive 10 dollars, she would do it with absolutely no hesitation. Something about how she is completely incapable of self-reflection is very personal to me and gives me this intense distaste any time I am reminded she is alive. Obviously, as is the case with some villains, I don’t think she’s supposed to be someone we identify with.
After setting mass wildfires in the forest (and of course, blaming it on the shield hero as she is so prone to doing), Myne and the others continue their search for Naofumi, who settles in a kingdom with an ally of Melty’s. It’s not long before they are found and a heinous lord responsible for the persecution of many demi-humans presents himself. Considering that one of those demi-humans was Raphtalia, this naturally puts her into a state of rage upon seeing him. In a later scene, she is no doubt ready to slay the man in an act of vindication but is stopped remembering what it means to stoop to the level of the evil that we fight. To be honest, I wouldn’t have blamed her had she killed him. In any event, it looks like he didn’t really need her help as he summons a dragon that offs him in an instant anyway.
What was Melty’s plan here, by the way? She seems pretty insistent that Naofumi ruined it by saving her, but I’m not sure she had much of a plan to begin with.
I’m surprised that the queen hasn’t intervened at this point as I’m quite certain she is not only aware of what is happening in the kingdom at large but doesn’t approve. My guess is that there is something even worse happening on the side of the world she is on currently that requires her attention. Hey, I didn’t forget – I still want that sweet vindication we will get when she inevitably returns and puts all the royalty in the kingdom in their place.
Raphtalia’s journey through the catacombs, her former home, reminded her of all the dark things that happened to demi-humans in this kingdom. Surprisingly, Melty was unaware that any of this was happening – I suppose she is quite young so she couldn’t have known about everything, and I doubt Idol was boasting about this (Actually…maybe he was). Raphtalia sobbing over the skeleton of her old friend hit me very hard – to see a strong character like Raphtalia have her character frame broken and give way to emotion is a powerful tool for moving me. I know she will make this situation right – and she does just that by freeing her fellow demi-humans who have survived.
But uh, yeah, we got other things to worry about, namely old T-rex ass chasing our heroes out of the town. Considering this is something that was sealed away because of its strength (Sealed – not defeated!) and Naofumi is level capped due to being unable to class up, I am a little concerned as to whether they can defeat this. I’m not sure if anyone can or would be willing to save them if the worst happened (Van Reichnott would, but he’s currently transporting the demi-humans to safety).
