Thus sparks the end of the fifteen arc (I’m serious, that’s what it’s actually called) for Bungou Stray Dogs. All in all, it was an ok arc. I think the prior flashback arc showing how Dazai left the port mafia was too big of an act to follow up. That said, I think the biggest benefit this arc offered us was showing us how the infamous pair twin dark got started.
While Bungou Stray dogs has always walked a tightrope when showing us the questionable moral compass of Osamu Dazai (especially prior to joining the armed detective agency), I found it quite interesting that even back then he was the chessmaster we know him as today. Even when the sheep had left Chuuya for dead and even though Dazai attempted to make it appear as though he planned to kill everyone, it was made apparent he would spare the children of the sheep from the very beginning, with or without Chuuya’s consent.
Mori explains that when new inductees are brought into the port mafia, it is customary for them to inherit a piece of apparel of a current executive. Chuuya inherits Randou’s hat, and thereby discovers his true name (previously alluded to right before his death) – Rimbaud.
Back to the present, we see that following the events of the Bungou Stray Dogs movie Dead Apple, Mori had managed to abduct Fyodor, who is no doubt going to be the major villain for the forseeable future. As the man responsible for crashing the Mobi Dick in the previous fight against the Guild, it’s a little unnerving to know a man this powerful is just kinda hanging around. The fourth episode was more or less a brief showing into both his abilities and his motives (something that even in the movie we got surprising little amounts of).
After a battle of wits, Fyodor brutally murders a port mafia executive and his associates, and makes his escape. We still don’t know what his gifted ability is. He claims to have a goal of wiping the world of evil and impurities – it’s sounding like he is a villain with a god complex, basically. He then claims he will take the head of Mori, destroy the port mafia and destroy the armed detective agency. Nobody is safe! Hopefully both forces realize who the true enemy here is and band together, but we know tensions are a little higher than that when it comes to the relations between the detective agency and the port mafia.
